Managing PI Objectives

Program Increment (PI) Objectives are a summary of the business and technical goals that an Agile Team or train intends to achieve in the upcoming PI. Safedevops.app provides a dedicated interface to create, track, and manage these objectives, ensuring they align with the overall vision of the Agile Release Train (ART).

The PI Objectives Dashboard

Within the details of a specific Program Increment, the "PI Objectives" tab serves as your central dashboard for managing all objectives for that PI.

1. Objectives Summary
At the top of the dashboard, you'll find a summary section that provides a quick, at-a-glance overview of the PI's progress:

  • Overall Completion: A progress bar showing the percentage of completed objectives.
  • Total Objectives: The total number of objectives defined for the PI.
  • Status Breakdown: A count of objectives in each status category (e.g., Planned, In Progress, Completed).

2. Filtering Objectives
To help you focus on specific items, the dashboard includes powerful filtering options:

  • Filter by Team: View objectives assigned to a specific team or see all teams at once.
  • Filter by Status: Narrow down the list to objectives with a particular status, such as "At Risk" or "Completed".

Creating and Editing an Objective

You can create a new objective by clicking the "Create Objective" button. This will open a form where you can define its details. Editing an existing objective uses the same form, pre-filled with its current information.

Objective Fields Explained
When creating or editing an objective, you will need to provide the following information:

  • Objective Title: A clear and concise name for the objective.
  • Team: The team responsible for achieving the objective.
  • Status: The current status of the objective (e.g., Planned, In Progress, Completed).
  • Business Value (1-10): The business value stakeholders assign to the objective if it is achieved.
  • Confidence (1-10): The team's confidence level in achieving the objective.
  • Planned Value: The planned value points for the objective.
  • Actual Value: The actual value points achieved, which can be filled in after the work is completed.
  • Description: A more detailed explanation of the objective.
  • Dependencies: A space to list any dependencies on other teams or objectives.
  • Comments: Any additional notes or comments.

Managing Objectives in the List
Each objective is displayed as a card in the list. From here, you can:

  • View Details: Quickly see the title, team, values, and description.
  • Edit: Click the "Edit" button to open the form and make changes.
  • Delete: Click the "Delete" button to permanently remove an objective. You will be asked to confirm this action.
